Traffic Bonding for Reliable Internet | MiWire 5G

The magic of Traffic Bonding: Your unbreakable connection with MiWire

In today’s world, "being online" isn't enough; we need to be reliably online. Whether you are in a professional meeting, streaming high-definition video, or operating critical equipment, a "glitch" in the internet is more than just an annoyance—it's a disruption to your life and work. More and more applications are hosted in the could, which means that user must have access at all times. Today, ships are basically floating offices where the crew will need access to the Internet and cloud services most of the time to perform work related and private tasks.

At MiWire, we are introducing a standard feature in our Below Deck Unit (BDU) that solves this problem once and for all: Traffic Bonding.

What is Traffic Bonding? (The highway analogy)

To understand traffic bonding, imagine your data is a warehouse full of boxes that need to be delivered to a store.

  • Standard Internet: You have one road. If there is a traffic jam or the road is closed, your delivery is late or never arrives.
  • Load Balancing (The "Old" Way): You have three roads and three trucks. You send one truck down each road. If one road is blocked, that truck is stuck, and your store only gets two-thirds of the shipment.
  • Traffic Bonding (The MiWire Way): You build a highway that uses the space of all roads combined. Your shipment is broken into tiny pieces spread across all lanes. If one lane closes, those pieces instantly move to the other lanes without the driver even hitting the brakes.

While simple load balancing switches between connections, traffic bonding combines them into one single virtual "pipe".

How MiWire makes it happen

Our equipment is designed to take full advantage of this technology.

1. Dual antennas, one connection

When you have two MiWire routers with antennas connected to a single BDU, our system doesn't just "pick the best one." It uses both simultaneously. Traffic is split at the packet level between the two antennas, giving you the combined speed and stability of both paths at once.

2. Bringing in the heavens: Satellite integration

Traffic bonding isn't limited to just cellular signals. We can split your traffic between your MiWire 5G/LTE devices and satellite connections. If you are in a remote area where 5G is weak but satellite is available, bonding them ensures that even if a cloud blocks your satellite or a hill weakens your 5G, your internet remains steady and fast.

Totally transparent: Why Your VPN and apps will love it

One of the biggest headaches for professional users is when a VPN "drops" because the internet connection switched from one network to another.

MiWire’s traffic bonding includes a joint endpoint in the cloud. To the internet—and to your applications—you appear to have one single, persistent IP address.

  • No more dropped VPNs: Because the "endpoint" in the cloud never changes, your VPN client stays connected even if your physical antennas are switching base stations or swapping between 5G and Satellite.
  • Total transparency: Your meeting apps (Zoom, Teams), streaming services, and professional tools see one rock-solid connection, regardless of what is happening with the hardware below deck.

Smarter technology: Graceful degradation (powered by NanoPing)

The software inside our BDU (built on NanoPing’s cutting-edge engine) does more than just "combine" links—it manages them intelligently:

  • Adaptive error correction (FEC): Our system sends "repair packets" alongside your data. If a packet is lost on a weak 5G link, the system mathematically reconstructs it instantly without needing to wait for a re-send.
  • Path optimization: The BDU "feels" the quality of each connection in real-time. It prioritizes your strongest, most cost-effective links and only uses expensive or slower backups when needed.
  • Graceful degradation: Instead of your video freezing when a signal weakens, the system reshapes the traffic based on exactly what each channel can handle at that millisecond.

The bottom line for MiWire customers

With traffic bonding now standard in our BDU, you can enjoy uninterrupted streaming and online meetings. Changes in base stations, antennas, or even shifting from terrestrial to satellite signals happen "under the hood," leaving your connection sensitive applications completely untouched.

MiWire doesn't just give you a connection; we give you an unbreakable one. Wherever you are…
